That being said, I thought I would use this opportunity to write about the people in my life who are important to me. Instead of writing about myself or what I’ve been up to during this whole brouhaha, I thought I would instead choose to highlight some of the activities or hobbies of the people close to me, and discuss how they’ve truly inspired me during these trying times. I won’t be using any photos of them, but I swear, these people are real and not some figments of my imagination. I chose not to put these people in the spotlight but instead acknowledge the work they’ve done as a way of complementing their creativity and expressing how proud of them I am for making the best out of this difficult situation.
While I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to continue working through everything, there are many people who have been staying home for nearly three months now. My best friend is one of those people. After that initial excitement of not having to wake up early to go to work passed and after having watched every single television show and movie Netflix has to offer… twice, as the constant stream of text messages, I received from him suggest, my friend was left with nothing do to. It was not too long ago that he decided to start working on his house and make all the necessary repairs to the walls and furniture. He managed to paint all of the rooms in his house and recently even started volunteering to help paint the walls in his neighbours’ homes as well. He’s become quite the handyman and I’m incredibly proud to see him use the skills he’s acquired throughout his life and apply them towards helping people… especially during these difficult times.
The other person I wanted to draw attention to is my cousin, who has been working from home for quite some time. My cousin works as an elementary school teacher, so for the remainder of the school year, she has have been teaching classes online to her students. In addition to that, she has also been using the skills she’s acquired as a teacher to tutor children outside of school for free. She did so as a way to help children catch up with the materials they missed while schools were temporarily closed and to provide extra help with lessons they were having more difficulty understanding due to the online nature of the class. I was incredibly happy to hear of the ways my cousin decided to give back and help out her community during the pandemic. And I am still proud to say that she is my cousin.
So as we continue to find ourselves in the midst of this whole pandemic, I think it’s important to acknowledge all the people who are working so hard, and doing the best that they can in this situation. There are so many people I would like to acknowledge and thank for all of their hard work. From the essential workers putting themselves at risk to help make our lives a little easier to the people staying at home trying to help whoever they can, however they can. If you know someone who’s been working hard to help people out, be sure to thank them and let them know how they’ve inspired you.
Thank you for reading and stay safe!
